Harare’s international schools are a small but diverse group that includes an International Baccalaureate (IB) continuum school, schools following the British Cambridge pathway and a number that combine international syllabuses with Zimbabwean programmes; a few bilingual (French/English) options also operate in the city. English is the usual medium of instruction across international schools, while Shona and Ndebele are taught in many schools in line with national language policy and some schools offer additional modern languages. Fees vary widely: more modest private schools may quote a few thousand US dollars a year for lower grades, while premium international schools publish annual tuition in the mid- to high-five-figure range (USD) and often add capital levies or termly payment plans. Timetables and admissions differ between schools - some follow the Zimbabwe national calendar (January - December) while others follow a northern-hemisphere August - June IB-style year; families should register early, check each school’s calendar and prepare academic records, birth and immunisation documents and evidence of residence or visa status before moving to Harare.
