Introduction

Mayflower Christian Academy is a non-profit association offering a Christian education with public status recognized by the Austrian government. Located on the International Campus Vienna in Oberlaa, the school shares facilities with Arche Noah kindergarten, enabling collaboration in a community rooted in shared values. From grade seven, French becomes a main subject, and the school also offers Advanced Placement (AP) alongside the Austrian curriculum. A Digital Media Concept underpins learning with tablets and interactive boards. ErasmusPlus projects foster international mobility, while service-learning, arts, and mentoring programs strengthen academics, character, and leadership. The school belongs to International Campus Vienna and emphasizes Christian values, bilingual education, and preparation for study in Austria and beyond, and future study abroad.

Academics

Mayflower Christian Academy teaches Bespoke Curriculum, Christian Curriculum for students aged 5 to 18.

Curriculum

Primary level follows the Austrian primary school curriculum (grades 0–4) with German as the first language and English taught intensively as a second language, supported by DaZ/DaF. Secondary level follows the Austrian lower secondary curriculum (AHS) for grades 5–8; material is taught partly in English. The school plans to expand to a secondary school diploma (Matura) in the near future. From the 5th grade, French is introduced as a second foreign language and becomes a main subject from the 7th grade.

Exam Results

Pupils are graded using the Austrian system (1–5) from grade 3 onward, with a verbal addition. Detailed learning objective protocols (LZP) accompany the grades. Reports are issued twice a year and include a behaviour assessment.

Higher Education Progression

The school currently serves primary grades 1–4 and secondary grades 5–8. It plans to offer the Matura in the future, expanding its diploma offerings.

Gifted and Talented

Gifted education is supported by a team of teachers including gifted education specialists, a learning coach, DaZ support and English teachers to promote talents and high-ability learners.

Wellbeing

Social and Emotional Learning (SEL)

The school centers on Christian values and a community-based learning environment. It aims to develop students into strong individuals who can cope with themselves and their surroundings, live with confidence, and pursue their goals. Learning goes beyond academics to help students discover talents, enjoy learning, and take responsibility within a caring community that values diversity and respectful interactions.

Special Educational Needs (SEN)

The school provides intensive German language support (DaZ/DaF) for pupils with insufficient German and may classify pupils as exceptional when language skills lag. It offers individual support lessons as part of the teacher's regular instruction, with additional language or mathematics support and private lessons available on request. The MIKA-D test is used to assess language proficiency.

English as an Additional Language (EAL)

The language of instruction is German; English is used intensively as a second language, with DaZ/DaF support to help pupils overcome language hurdles. English is built up through dedicated English lessons and by integrating English into other subjects.

Mental Wellbeing

Mentoring supports student well-being. Each pupil has a mentor and weekly or fortnightly conversations to share concerns and develop strengths. The mentoring programme helps students understand their own strengths, consider future education and vocations, and seek guidance in their personal development.

Safeguarding

The school has a safeguarding/child protection concept (Kinderschutzkonzept) with detailed information available on the service pages.

Admissions

Admissions

You would like to enrol your child with MCA? MCA welcomes all students, regardless of origin, ethnicity, nationality and religion. Visit us on our Open Day (the 1st Tuesday in October, November and May) and/or arrange a personal tour so we can show you around. Siblings of MCA students are given priority for admission. Registration deadlines are published in the Primary and Secondary parent information. Placement for grades 0–8 takes place directly at MCA after we receive the completed registration form, and a placement date is arranged. A parental interview is required for admission. Basic admission requirements include commitment to the goals and values of MCA; sufficient language skills in German or English; adherence to the school rules as described in the student handbook and signed by parents; sufficient financial means to cover school fees; and medical fitness to attend the school.

Scholarships

Scholarships: An application guide is provided. At the start of each school year (September) we collect the necessary data from parents who wish to apply for a scholarship. Rules for granting a scholarship and the application form are provided. The School Board, consisting of five members (representatives of teachers, parents and the Finance Board), decides which pupils receive scholarships and the amount, based on the agreed principles. Fundraising: MCA is financed by school fees, Federation subsidies and donations from Christian circles and sponsors; fundraising activities help cover the costs of Christian education and school life. Donations support school grants to pupils who would otherwise not be able to attend; the administration regards it as an honour to steward funds for the benefit of the children and we aim to keep fees affordable. Forms for applying for a scholarship can be obtained from the school secretary; all applications should be addressed to the treasurer responsible for finances. Tax deductibility in Austria is noted on the site.
