Introduction

Mulgrave School is a private day school in Canada offering the International Baccalaureate continuum (PYP, MYP, DP) and Canadian Curriculum. Billing schedule and payment terms

- New students: application fee, New Student Fee (CAD 3,000) and the new‑student first instalment (CAD 4,000) are due on acceptance.
- Standard invoicing (returning families and continuing students): a non‑refundable tuition deposit is invoiced in late winter and the balance of fees is invoiced for payment in early summer (deposit due in February, balance due in June as an example of the established schedule).
- Monthly payment plan: tuition and consolidated fees (less the deposit) may be payable by a monthly instalment plan. Example structure used in the school's payment authorisation forms: payments spread over 10 monthly instalments beginning in July; an administration fee is charged monthly and a financing fee is charged with the initial payment when the monthly plan is selected. Specific monthly instalment amounts and the timing of instalments are published on the school's payment authorisation form/invoice.
- Overdue accounts: interest is charged on outstanding fees (example policy item: 2% per month / 24% per annum on overdue balances).

Other charges and routine additional costs

- Consolidated fees cover technology supplies, textbooks, yearbooks, curriculum‑based field trips and grade camps; for some grades the consolidated fee also includes local Global Experience (GEx) activities.
- Optional/additional costs may include co‑curricular program fees, optional trips, musical instrument rental or purchases, after‑school care, and some elective program fees. Bus transportation and cafeteria services are additional where applicable; lunches are included for PK3 and PK4.
- Mandarin A fee: a separate, non‑refundable programme fee applies for Mandarin A where applicable.
- Security deposit: a refundable security deposit of CAD 500 covers athletic uniform deposits and library fees for students in Grade 3 and up; the deposit is returned in full less any charges when the student graduates.
- School‑issued devices: devices (iPads or laptops, depending on grade level) are provided to students in Grade 2 and up; families do not need to supply these devices. Technology specifications and any optional computer purchase programs are communicated by the school.
- Uniforms: uniforms are required and are available from the school's approved supplier; gently used uniform options may be available through the parent volunteer store.

Sibling discounts and international student charges

- Sibling discounts: the school applies tuition discounts for additional enrolled children (examples shown in current admissions material).
- International / non‑resident student fee: an additional international/non‑resident fee is charged for K–12 students who are in Canada on a student visa or who do not qualify for the Province of British Columbia grant; for 2026–27 this additional charge is CAD 7,000 and is billed with the balance of fees.

Refund information and penalties

- Certain fees are non‑refundable: the New Student Fee, tuition deposit and consolidated fees are non‑refundable.
- Withdrawal refunds: withdrawal before December 31 of the academic year incurs a CAD 5,000 penalty; the refundable portion (after deducting the penalty and any non‑refundable items) is prorated according to the school's published refund policy. No refund is provided for withdrawals after December 31, except in specified medically certified circumstances where a prorated refund of unused fees may apply.
- Refundable family deposit: a refundable family deposit is required of all new families; the amount stated in the school's current 2026–27 materials is CAD 25,000 per family and that deposit is returned in the fall after the last child from the family no longer attends.

Curriculum

Mulgrave is an IB Continuum School offering three programmes: the Primary Years Programme (PYP) from preschool to Grade 5, the Middle Years Programme (MYP) from Grade 6 to 10, and the Diploma Programme (DP) in Grades 11 and 12. The IB-based curriculum emphasises inquiry-based, student-centred learning and develops critical thinking, global understanding, and communication skills. Core divisions include Early Years (PK3–K), Junior School (Grades 1–5), Middle School (Grades 6–9), and Senior School (Grades 10–12). DP language options include English, Chinese, Persian, and French across the DP curriculum.

Student Teacher Ratio

Exam Results

Mulgrave graduates with the IB Diploma and the British Columbia Dogwood Diploma, or with a combination of IB DP courses and the Dogwood Diploma (Enriched Pathway). Higher Education Progression

All students graduate with the BC Dogwood Diploma and the IB Diploma, or via an Enriched Pathway combining IB DP courses with Dogwood requirements. Gifted and Talented

About 30% of Mulgrave students follow an Enriched Pathway to graduation, customizing their programme with selected IB DP courses. Mulgrave also offers the Global Citizenship Experiential Education (GEx) programme for Grades 6–11, providing local and international experiential learning and leadership opportunities. GEx experiences emphasize global citizenship, intercultural understanding, and responsible action.

Wellbeing

Social and Emotional Learning (SEL)

Mulgrave's approach to social and emotional learning is based on Martin Seligman's Positive Psychology and the PERMA model, adapted into the Mulgrave IPERMAH framework to address student wellbeing. The IPERMAH dimensions are learned and supported through the formal IB curriculum, pastoral care and support systems, curriculum enrichment opportunities, and the school's ethos and values. IPERMAH includes having comfort with emerging identity, understanding identity and intercultural skills, having a clear sense of purpose and meaning, having positive relationships, managing emotions and maintaining positive emotions, feeling and being positively engaged, being positive about accomplishments, and maintaining physical health and wellness. Personal counselling is provided by three full-time Registered Clinical Counsellors who deliver intervention and prevention services to students and support faculty with classroom practice; counsellors work with students from Preschool through Grade 12. Pastoral care is organized through the class teacher with support from divisional leadership and a team of school-based professionals.

Special Educational Needs (SEN)

Mulgrave is committed to removing and preventing barriers and to promoting inclusion for individuals with disabilities in the school community. A three-year accessibility action plan established in 2023 guides inclusion efforts and is updated annually, based on the Accessible B.C. Act. The action plan is built on adaptability, collaboration, diversity, inclusion, self-determination, and universal design. The Accessibility page states that Mulgrave promotes inclusion and removal of barriers for all students, staff, and families.

Mental Wellbeing

Mulgrave supports student mental wellbeing through its IPERMAH framework and pastoral care. The dimensions of IPERMAH include identity, purpose, relationships, emotion management, engagement, accomplishment, and health, and are addressed through the formal IB program and the school's pastoral systems. Mulgrave provides three full-time Registered Clinical Counsellors who deliver intervention and prevention services and work with faculty to support wellbeing from Preschool through Grade 12. Personal counselling is complemented by the pastoral care structure led by teachers and divisional leaders.

Scholarships

Mulgrave offers Financial Assistance (need-based) for new students in Grades 7–11, determined by a third-party financial assessment and based on demonstrated financial need and a strong applicant profile; the deadline for consideration is January 30, 2026, and families indicate interest on the application. When possible, Financial Assistance decisions are shared with offers of admission. Mulgrave also offers a Bursary Financial Aid program to current Mulgrave families experiencing unforeseen financial difficulties; bursaries are temporary (up to three years) and are determined via third‑party evaluation.
