Gifted and Talented

Unparalleled support; ISHR's team supports students with learning differences.

Wellbeing

Social and Emotional Learning (SEL)

ISHR has counsellors who work closely with teachers and parents to support students. Students may approach counsellors during the school day or contact them to make an appointment. Counselling provides a non-judgmental, caring environment to help students work through concerns. Counselling also offers preventative programs to address school-wide needs across the sections.

Special Educational Needs (SEN)

Learning Enrichment (LE) provides targeted support for students with mild learning needs. Three LE teachers work with teachers, counselors, and parents to ensure academic needs are supported. The program offers consultation, evaluations, observations, in-class support, and small-group instruction. Students enter LE through referrals from a previous school, an IEP, or a teacher referral. Progress is reviewed regularly to ensure the level of support remains appropriate.

English as an Additional Language (EAL)

The school assesses language capabilities and, where necessary, teachers and EAL specialists collaborate to formulate a plan for student success. WIDA MODEL is used annually to track English language proficiency from Grade 1 upwards, alongside classroom observation and teacher collaboration across the school. When proficiency is reached, students exit the program and are typically monitored for a year. EAL support is provided in the Early Years, Primary School, and Secondary School, with small-group instruction and sometimes 1:1 sessions, and the EAL team collaborates with homeroom teachers to support learning.

Mental Wellbeing

ISHR provides mental wellbeing support through counselling services. Two counsellors work with students in a listening, confidential environment and collaborate with teachers and parents to support individual needs. The counselling provided is short-term and not licensed psychological therapy; longer-term support may be referred to external services as needed. Students can access counselling during the school day or by appointment, and what is shared remains confidential except where safety concerns require disclosure.

Safeguarding

The school has a Child Safeguarding and Protection Policy based on international law and the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child. ISHR fosters a culture of transparency and speaking out against unsafe practices; safeguarding is everyone's responsibility, with staff, volunteers and visitors expected to uphold this. The school provides annual age-appropriate safeguarding lessons for all grades, as well as staff and parent training, and parent information sessions.

Admissions

Admissions

1. Submit completed application form with copies of the student's previous report cards and any other requested information. The submission initiates the admissions process and is considered for feasibility. 2. If the application is considered feasible, the family will be invited for an interview with the Head of Section and other pertinent members of the team. The interview assesses the fit with ISHR's programs and culture. 3. Where applicable, the student will be invited to school to complete the placement tests. In overseas cases, placement tests will be sent to the student's present school for completion. 4. If the application is successful, parents will receive a letter of confirmation, a school contract, and an invoice for the admission fee. 5. A place only becomes guaranteed after the admission fee has been paid and the school contract has been signed and sent back. 6. Placement: Students will be placed in their age appropriate class with the orientation cut-off date for placement being September 30th. In very rare cases where a placement test or the probation period reveals that a student would be better placed in another grade level to best serve their emotional or academical welfare then ISHR reserves the right to make a more appropriate placement in an adjacent grade level. All new students have a 6-month probationary period. 7. Conditions of Acceptance: ISHR is actively committed to admitting and supporting a diverse student body. We practice a non-discriminatory policy in all school-administered programs and will not discriminate on the basis of race, colour, gender, national and ethnic origin, age, disability, religion, sexual orientation or gender preference in any of its admissions and educational policies, programs, and practices. We accept students whom ISHR can support emotionally and academically in our curricular context; exceptions can be made for overseas students where fitting criteria exist. 8. IB Diploma Programme (11th and 12th Grade): The IB Diploma Programme is a rigorous prescribed academic curriculum. Although non-selective in admissions, ISHR reserves the right to not admit a student into the Diploma Programme if the school cannot adequately support their emotional and academic welfare; some subject combinations may not be offered if not in demand. 9. Application: ISHR offers the full IB continuum for students from 3-year-old Kindergarten through Grade 12; click Apply here to begin the process. 10. Tuition, Fees and Financial Aid: Fees vary by grade; for detailed information on school fees, payment plans, financial aid, and more, please see the Tuition and Fees page.
