Deutsche Schule Bukarest is a German Auslandsschule delivering the German curriculum for students aged 1 to 18. The campus combines modern facilities with a strong language focus, and instruction is primarily in German, complemented by Romanian, French and English language programs. The school offers a continuous path from primary through the Deutsches Internationales Abitur (DIA) pathway in the upper levels, with a bridging Grade 10 and the option to complete the Realschulabschluss (MSA) along the way. Facilities include laboratories for science teaching, a dedicated library of over 2,500 titles, and a sports hall that supports physical education and activities. Language competence is central; native German staff and language support create a bilingual environment. Extracurriculars range from UN-Debate participation and math contests to music festivals, concerts, peer tutoring, and kindergarten mentoring. It is the only school in Romania that exclusively teaches under this German curriculum. Transport to and from DSBU is provided by an external bus company.
DSBU provides Grădiniță (Kindergarten), Grundschule (Primary School), and Liceu (Secondary School). The Liceu lasts three years (grades 10–12), with grade 10 serving as a bridging year; two graduation options are available: Realschulabschluss and Deutsches Internationales Abitur (DIA).

DSBU's high school lasts three years, from grade 10 to grade 12, with grade 10 bridging from middle school into the upper level. After grade 10, students may graduate with the Realschulabschluss (MSA) or continue to the Deutsches Internationales Abitur (DIA) pathway. Grades in grade 10 use a scale from 1 (very good) to 6 (insufficient). The grade 10 curriculum includes German; French for beginners and advanced; English; Romanian as mother tongue and as foreign language; mathematics; biology; chemistry; physics; history; civic culture; geography; ethics; visual and practical arts; music; and physical education, with a one-week internship offered for grade 10. In the DIA pathway, grades 11-12 span four semesters and cover German; French (beginners and advanced); English; mathematics; biology; chemistry; history; ethics; music; and physics, with a 0-15 grading scale. Admission to the DIA exam requires 36 semester evaluations, none may be marked 0; 29 evaluations must be at least 5 points; seven evaluations must be between 1 and 4 points; and the total must reach 180 points.
DSBU is an intercultural encounter school that develops intercultural competence among students from German-speaking, Romanian, and other backgrounds. The school emphasizes collaborative learning across preschool, kindergarten, primary, and gymnasium under an All-under-one-roof principle, with smooth transitions and opportunities for parental involvement in governance. It fosters social skills through small-group and partner work, class and student councils, and programs such as peer tutoring, a kindergarten mentoring program, and a conflict-resolution program. German is the language of instruction across the school; German and Romanian are taught as both foreign languages and mother tongues. The majority of the teaching staff are native German speakers who serve as language models, supporting language development for non-native speakers.
