Introduction

Deutsche Schule St. Petersburg is a private, all-day German school in Saint Petersburg, serving kindergarten through upper secondary. It teaches according to German standards approved by the Kultusministerkonferenz (KMK) with German as the language of instruction and a steady progression through three foreign languages: Russian from grade 1, English from grade 3, and French from grade 6. The school operates a dedicated secondary campus on Petrogradsky with a library, a lunch canteen, and homework supervision, and it runs Ganztagsschule programs with after-school clubs and excursions. Founded in 2009, it joined the international network of schools under the patronage of the German Foreign Office, reflecting its strong ties to Germany. After grade 10, graduates receive the Mittlerer Schulabschluss, and upper secondary studies follow German curricula. Admission to the Oberstufe depends on exam results, with language tests for Russian-language students. The campus includes a modern library, canteen, and after-school care for students.

Academics

Deutsche Schule St Petersburg teaches German Curriculum.

Curriculum

The DSP teaches according to German standards with curricula approved by the Kultusministerkonferenz (KMK). The language of instruction is German. All students study three foreign languages: Russian from grade 1, English from grade 3, and French from grade 6. After completing grade 10, graduates obtain the Mittlerer Schulabschluss. In the upper secondary, teaching follows German curricula and admission to the Oberstufe begins at the start of grade 11. Admission to Oberstufe for students from the German system is based on examination results (MSA-based) with minimum grades of 3.0 (for Gymnasium and MSA) or 2.4 (for Realschule); Russian-language students with German and English knowledge (minimum B2) take entrance examinations; language assessment is supported by German language models B2 and C1.

Student Teacher Ratio

Approximately 150 students in primary and lower secondary and more than 24 teachers; roughly six students per teacher.

Exam Results

Upper secondary admissions use German-system exam standards: for students coming from the German school system, entrance results are based on MSA exams with minimum grades of 3.0 (Gymnasium/MSA) or 2.4 (Realschule). Russian-system students with German and English knowledge (minimum B2) take entrance examinations. Language assessment includes model German language tests B2 and C1.

Admissions

Admissions

1) German language is the most important condition for admission. If the child has attended a German-speaking school or a German Auslandsschule and thus has sufficient German language skills, admission can occur without a language test. Russian language knowledge is not mandatory for admission. 2) Procedure for school admission: a guided tour of the school to become familiar with the educational concept; a trial day in the appropriate class; a welcome meeting with the parents. 3) For children coming from German schools: an admission interview and transcript evaluation. For children coming from Russian schools: an admission interview, transcript evaluation and/or language test. 4) Billing is issued and an adaptation period in the class begins. 5) Children transferring from German-speaking countries or from other German schools abroad do not need to take a language test. For children from Russian schools, starting in the second half of the second grade, passing a German language test becomes mandatory for admission; if admission occurs by the end of the first half of the second grade, German language skills are desirable but not required. 6) Base tuition for all grade levels for the 2026/2027 school year is 1,103,000 rubles per year. Below this, approximate tuition costs can be calculated. A discount of 15% to 30% applies for the second and subsequent children. For discounts and scholarships, please inquire at the secretariat. 7) Admissions consultation is available to discuss these steps and next steps for enrollment.
