Academics

International Community School teaches American Curriculum for students aged 4 to 18.

Curriculum

ICS follows an American curriculum framework aligned with U.S. educational standards while incorporating international perspectives throughout all grade levels.

Elementary students (K-5) receive instruction in core subjects including language arts, mathematics, science, social studies, and Bible along with specialist classes in art, music, physical education, and technology.

Middle school students (grades 6-8) transition to a departmentalized structure with increased elective options while high school students (grades 9-12) follow a college preparatory program that includes Advanced Placement (AP) courses in multiple subject areas.

Graduates earn an American high school diploma, with AP exam scores potentially providing college credit at universities worldwide.

Wellbeing

Social and Emotional Learning (SEL)

ICS integrates social and emotional learning through their advisory programs and counseling services, with dedicated counselors assigned to each school division. The curriculum includes character development classes that teach students skills in communication, conflict resolution, and emotional regulation while emphasizing biblical principles. Classroom teachers implement regular community-building activities and restorative practices to foster positive relationships among students.

Special Educational Needs (SEN)

While ICS offers Learning Support services, it is not a specialized SEN institution. The Learning Support program is designed to assist students with mild to moderate learning difficulties, providing tailored interventions to support their academic progress.

English as an Additional Language (EAL)

ICS provides an English Language Learners (ELL) program to support students for whom English is not the first language. This program includes specialized instruction to enhance English proficiency, enabling students to access the broader curriculum effectively. The ELL program is structured to integrate language development with academic content, facilitating a smoother transition for non-native English speakers.

Mental Wellbeing

ICS addresses mental wellbeing through a team of school counselors who provide both preventative programs and responsive services for individual student needs. The counseling department offers individual and small group sessions addressing topics such as stress management, healthy relationships, and transition support for international students. Teachers receive training in recognizing signs of mental health concerns and following clear referral processes when students need additional support.

Safeguarding

ICS implements comprehensive safeguarding procedures including mandatory background checks for all staff and regular child protection training throughout the year. The school maintains a designated child protection team that oversees policy implementation, conducts staff training, and serves as the primary contact for any concerns about student welfare. Campus security measures include controlled access points, visitor screening procedures, and supervision protocols for all school activities and events.
