The Straits Waldorf School

The Straits Waldorf School is located at 111 Jalan Kembangan, in Singapore's tranquil and family-friendly East Coast area. It's conveniently accessible by public transport and is close to pleasant residential neighborhoods, local parks, and the coastline.

The school provides education from Grade 1 (ages approximately 6–7) through Grade 8 (ages approximately 13–14), structured according to the Waldorf developmental stages.

It is a co-educational day school, welcoming both boys and girls. The school does not offer boarding facilities.

The school follows the international Waldorf educational philosophy and curriculum. It has no formal affiliation with any particular country.

The Straits Waldorf School has no religious affiliation, welcoming families from all backgrounds.

The school operates from Monday to Friday, starting at 9:00 am and ending at 4:00 pm.

The Straits Waldorf School does not offer a transportation service. Families are responsible for arranging their own transport to and from the school.

The Straits Waldorf School follows the internationally recognized Waldorf curriculum developed by Rudolf Steiner, emphasizing three stages of child development: willing (doing), feeling, and thinking.

In Grade 1, students engage with fairy tales and nature stories to support emerging academic skills. As they progress to Grade 2, the focus shifts to more complex phonics, word recognition, and math skills. Grade 3 emphasizes developing a sense of self, with language arts aimed at accuracy and fluency. In Grade 4, students enhance their writing and grammar skills, learn fractions and long division, and study local geography and zoology. Grade 5 introduces research tools, expository writing, fractions, decimals, and geometric principles. The curriculum continues to build on these foundations through to Grade 8.

The Straits Waldorf School emphasises listening with trust and without judgement; experiencing wonder and firing imagination; and learning the most when students feel enjoyment to support social and emotional development.

English is spoken in the classroom, and Mandarin is offered as a second language from Grade 1.

Discipline is non-punitive and aims to support self-esteem; infractions are addressed through meaningful, developmentally appropriate reparations connected to the incident.

1. Visit the school. The Straits Waldorf School offers tours for visiting families, arranged in line with current guidelines. A tour provides insight into the Waldorf-inspired education and environment. Arrangements can be made by contacting the school. 2. Submit application. Complete and submit an online application, and pay a SGD 200 application fee (non-refundable). The staff will contact you once the application is received. 3. Attend evaluation. Your child will be invited to attend an evaluation with the school's teachers to ensure a good fit for both child and school. 4. Receive results. You will be notified of the evaluation results by phone, including whether the child is accepted, rejected, or placed on a waiting list. If placed on the waiting list, you may pay SGD 800 to secure a spot, which is fully refundable if you withdraw 1 month before school begins. 5. Sign a contract. To finalise enrollment, you will sign a student contract and pay SGD 800. The school will then issue a handbook and other details about fees.

The school offers a 15% sibling discount on course fees for the second enrolled child onwards.

The Straits Waldorf School uses a waiting list for admissions. If you wish to secure a spot while on the waiting list, you may pay SGD 800 to secure a position, and this amount is fully refundable if you withdraw one month before the start of the school year. The waiting list results are communicated by phone, indicating whether the child is accepted, rejected, or placed on the waiting list.
