Introduction

Jogjakarta Community School (JCS) is a British independent school in Jogjakarta offering the UK Pearson Edexcel curriculum for ages 2 to 18. It operates as an English-medium school with official Pearson Edexcel Examination Centre status (Centre ID 97194), enabling learners to sit official assessments on campus. Founded in 2012 by Yayasan Suluh Semesta to serve Indonesian and expatriate families, JCS is governed by a parent and community-elected Board of Governors and supported by the YSS Trustees. In 2017 the school relocated to a purpose-built campus in northern Jogjakarta; in October 2024 the Multi-Purpose Space opened, and in January 2026 a new Learning Block will open alongside the original Learning Block. The Edexcel curriculum guides Early Years Foundation Stage through Key Stages 1–5, with a UK-style progression and Year Groups. Six Learner Traits—Independent, Resilient, Collaborative, Engaged, Reflective and Creative—shape teaching and learning, alongside a strong emphasis on pastoral care and personal development.

Invoices are issued with specific due dates and parents choose annual or termly instalment preferences with the school office. Fees for students enrolling after the start of Term 1 are calculated pro-rata for the portion of the academic year attended.

- Late payment policy: if an agreed extension is exceeded, an administration fee of IDR 1,400,000 per child will be added. If fees are not received within two weeks of the first due date without agreement, the administration fee of IDR 1,400,000 is applied automatically; after four weeks without payment or agreement the student may be asked not to attend until fees are paid.

- Separate/additional charges: baseline assessment fees (applied at the start of key stages), externally set examination fees (IGCSE, A Level, national exams), and charges for specific student activities (excursions, trips, after-school activities) are invoiced separately and are not included in the standard tuition figures.

- Family discount: families with more than two children enrolled qualify for a discount—5% off the tuition of the 3rd child and 10% off the tuition of the 4th child (discount calculated on the fees of the youngest child).

Boarding fees

- No boarding fees are published and the school does not list a boarding programme in its admissions or fee documents; therefore boarding provision and boarding fees are not applicable. (This statement is based on the absence of any published boarding programme or boarding fee schedule in the school's fee and admissions materials.)

Other costs and fees (uniform, materials, extracurriculars)

- Uniform: school-colour fabric (dark blue, yellow and white) is available for purchase from the school office; specific prices for fabric or pre-made uniform items are not published. Students must follow the school dress code guidelines and PE kit requirements.

- Stationery and student textbooks: standard school fees are stated to include the cost of tuition, stationery and student textbooks.

- Additional costs that must be budgeted separately include baseline testing, external examination fees (IGCSE/A Level/national exams), and charges for trips, clubs or other optional activities; each of these is invoiced separately when applicable.

Refund information and withdrawal terms

- The registration/application fee (IDR 3,800,000) is non-refundable. Families are not entitled to refunds or a suspension of payments for holidays or extended leave taken during the academic year. A parent withdrawing a child before the end of the school year will be charged up to the end of the term in which they withdraw; a minimum two months' written notice is required. Any refunds that are due are processed subject to administrative fees and will be processed within 15 working days after the student has left, subject to the school's withdrawal procedures.

Fee payment options

- The application/registration fee must be paid by bank transfer. For tuition and other fees, invoices are issued in Indonesian Rupiah (IDR); the published fee materials do not list alternative payment methods (credit card or other online payment platforms) in the fee schedule, and parents should follow the invoice instructions or contact the Business Manager/Finance office for payment arrangements. All payments must be made according to invoice due dates to avoid late-administration charges.

Notes on academic year references and availability of schedules

- The school's public fee documents include a formal fee schedule and a parent handbook that set out the registration fee, annual tuition figures, instalment structure, late payment rules, included and excluded costs, and withdrawal/refund rules. Specific published annual fee schedules are used by the school to issue invoices each year; the fee figures summarized above are taken from the most recent published fee schedule available in the school's admissions materials.

Curriculum

It is an approved Pearson Edexcel Examination Centre (ID 97194), enabling learners to sit official assessments on campus. The Pearson Edexcel curriculum provides a high-quality, globally benchmarked framework that ensures academic rigour, clear progression and strong preparation for future study. The curriculum sets clear expectations for each stage of learning and uses a UK-style progression with Early Years Foundation Stage, Key Stages 1–5 and Year Groups to structure learning. Wellbeing

Social and Emotional Learning (SEL)

Pastoral care is central to every aspect of school life at JCS. It supports the social, emotional and personal development of every learner, fostering relationships built on respect, empathy and genuine care. Learners feel valued, supported and understood; they develop socially, emotionally, morally, intellectually and physically and gain a strong sense of belonging. The pastoral approach is a whole-school responsibility, with teachers, support staff and leaders working together to provide a safe and encouraging environment where learners are guided to make positive choices and build healthy relationships and grow in confidence. This framework is closely aligned with the six JCS Learner Traits—Independent, Resilient, Collaborative, Engaged, Reflective and Creative—to support wellbeing and personal growth. As learners progress, pastoral guidance becomes increasingly important, encouraging reflection on strengths and future pathways and ensuring learners feel well prepared for challenges beyond school.

Special Educational Needs (SEN)

JCS will consider all enrolment requests relating to learners with additional needs on an individual basis. If a child requires additional support, this may necessitate a dedicated staff member or significant extra resources. In such cases there may be additional cost to the parent (by prior agreement only). JCS reserves the right to reject an application or re-registration on grounds including year group availability, whether the learner is suited to the program, or non-payment of fees.

English as an Additional Language (EAL)

An EAL program exists with a dedicated EAL teacher (Ibu Abby). The EAL contact is eal@jogjacommunityschool.org. The enrolment form asks whether a child has ever been in an ESL or EAL Programme. JCS delivers a UK Pearson Edexcel curriculum in English, and Indonesian language sessions run for all learners as part of the curriculum.

Mental Wellbeing

Pastoral care is central to school life and supports learners' social, emotional and personal development. It fosters relationships built on respect, empathy and genuine care. The approach aims for learners to feel valued, supported and understood, developing a strong sense of belonging and recognizing individual strengths and needs. The six JCS Learner Traits (Independent, Resilient, Collaborative, Engaged, Reflective, Creative) guide wellbeing and personal development. As learners progress, pastoral guidance helps them reflect on strengths, plan future pathways and seek support, ensuring they are well prepared for challenges beyond school. The school also emphasizes respectful communication and celebrates diversity to support wellbeing.

Safeguarding

JCS has a responsibility to protect and safeguard the welfare of all learners. The school operates a clear Child Protection Policy that is available from the Office to read on request.
