Located in West Surabaya, Sampoerna Academy Surabaya opened in 2019 as the sixth campus of the Putera Sampoerna Foundation to advance Indonesian education. The campus serves Playgroup through Primary, with Grand Pakuwon offering Middle and High School, on Pakuwon Indah and Grand Pakuwon campuses designed for international quality and digital learning. English is the language of instruction, with Mandarin taught in collaboration with Beijing Language and Cultural University. The school combines STEAM through project-based learning with the Cambridge International framework for Primary and Secondary, and offers the IB Diploma Programme as an option for Grades 11-12. Early Learning follows the IEYC. Facilities include technology-integrated classrooms, a spacious library, a science laboratory, dedicated arts and music studios, gyms and sports facilities. Sampoerna Academy Surabaya teaches IEYC (International Early Years Curriculum), Cambridge IGCSE, Cambridge A Levels, IB (DP), American Curriculum for students aged 2 to 18.
IEYC is used for Early Learning; Cambridge curriculum is used for Primary and Secondary; IB Diploma Programme is offered as an option for Grades 11–12. The school integrates STEAM through project-based learning. English is the language of instruction, and Mandarin is offered in collaboration with Beijing Language and Cultural University. Pakuwon Indah offers Playgroup to Kindergarten 2 and Primary (SD1–SD2); Grand Pakuwon offers Middle School and High School (SMP and SMA).
Graduates are prepared to enter universities worldwide; MOUs with partner universities enable credit transfer, including via the American College program; college and career guidance is provided through school counseling and SPAC (Student Parent Advisory Center).
The school places social and emotional learning at the core of its program. SEL is delivered through a dedicated SEL curriculum taught in all classes, reinforced by daily activities, and supported by a dedicated SEL teacher. A Community Building program, student council, mentorship programs and clubs foster leadership, collaboration, and positive relationships, with leadership development and parent involvement reinforcing SEL beyond the classroom. SEL also includes digital and media literacy as part of the framework.
English is the instructional language at Sampoerna Academy. English language proficiency supports opportunities to study domestically or internationally, and graduates achieve competency in Bahasa Indonesia and Mandarin.
Mental wellbeing is supported through the SEL program and access to trained school counsellors who work with students individually. The school provides resources to help parents understand and support their children's social and emotional development at home, reinforcing wellbeing beyond the classroom.
The safeguarding framework defines abuse and neglect, with school counsellors trained to take appropriate action and follow reporting procedures. Awareness-raising for students and teachers, guidance for parents, and access to counselling options are provided; warning signs are identified and reported, and measures include crisis resources and monitoring of safety, including social media and cyberbullying policies. CCTV monitoring may occur in common areas to support safety.
1. Admission Process: We are academically selective and all children must pass a period of observation and assessment (early years) or an entrance assessment. The entrance assessment features an assessment in English language, Mathematics, and Science along with a personal interview. The school may require students to attend the class for a day or days to monitor the child's behavior and academic level.
2. Class Division and Age Placement: We admit children from the year they turn 2 into Playgroup to the age of 15 into Grade 10; other grades and ages require more consideration and communication between school and parents. Students must reach the age before October 1 of the year of application, and must possess the proper leaving certificate from the previous school year along with major examination results where applicable. Students coming from the British grading system (13 years) will be placed according to conversion.
3. Curriculum and Language: Sampoerna Academy uses English as the language of instruction and offers a Mandarin Curriculum designed with Beijing Language and Cultural University in China. Curriculum framework includes IEYC for Early Learning, Cambridge for Primary and Secondary, and IB option for Grade 11 and Grade 12.
4. Fees and Apply Process: Tuition ranges from IDR 25 Million in ELC up to IDR 187 Million in Grade 12 per annum, with variation by campus and level. This excludes a one-time registration fee, books and resources, learning resource fee, uniform, field trips, Chromebooks and laptops, external exams, ESL, and other services. Application steps include providing copies of school records for the past two years, birth certificate, copies of ID (student and parents) or passports, and (for international students) KITAS; filling out the online application form; and, after review and approval, enrollment is confirmed.
