Bahasa Indonesia is taught at every stage and Indonesian language, history, and culture are woven throughout the curriculum; additional languages are incorporated as part of the broader study. The school follows the English National Curriculum as a framework—providing clear progression while allowing teacher flexibility—emphasising breadth across English, Mathematics, Sciences, Languages, Humanities, the Arts, Computing, and Physical Education. Academic outcomes show ISJ pupils consistently perform in the top 10% of international schools worldwide in standardised assessments, with Year 7 results including English SAS around 122, Mathematics SAS around 118.7, and Science SAS around 119.7, among other metrics.
In Early Years, class sizes are capped at 15 with three adults per room and a staff ratio of 1:5. From Year 1 onwards, typical primary class sizes are up to 20 with two adults per class, and older pupils are taught in small groups by subject specialists.

ISJ integrates social and emotional development into daily learning. Five pillars guide character development: Integrity & Responsibility; Resilience & Endeavour; Empathy & Compassion; Leadership & Service; Curiosity & Confidence. The approach is lived, not lectured, with students encouraged to take intellectual risks, lead projects, and reflect on their learning. The pastoral system ensures every pupil feels safe, valued, and supported through positive relationships, restorative practice, and a culture of fairness. These elements are embedded in ISJ's Charter and community, shaping how students interact and grow.
Learning support is provided within defined parameters through differentiated classroom practice and targeted interventions. Admissions decisions consider the school's capacity to meet a child's needs alongside cohort balance. The school employs teaching assistants in younger year groups and specialist support staff to assist learners with additional needs.
ISJ is an English-medium school. Students also study Bahasa Indonesia and Chinese, and engage with local culture as part of the curriculum. Home-language learning is informally supported by families outside the school programme. ISJ offers English as an Additional Language (EAL) support to students who require assistance accessing the curriculum in English, with support provided where resources allow and admissions considering the language profile of each year group.
The pastoral approach ensures every pupil feels safe, valued, and supported through positive relationships, restorative practice, and a culture of fairness. This care supports self-discipline, respect, and resilience as students engage with the five pillars of character. The daily practice of character development and student leadership opportunities contribute to emotional and social wellbeing. ISJ's wellbeing framework is embedded in daily school life and community expectations.
Safeguarding is central to all employment practices at ISJ. All staff provide criminal background checks from all countries where they have lived or worked as adults, and comprehensive reference checks are conducted. Staff adhere to a strict code of conduct and child safeguarding policy, receive regular safeguarding training, and are expected to report concerns immediately.
