The school was founded in 1980 and began life in a house in San Isidro. It moved to its current site in Santiago de Surco in 1985, at which time the site was a large plot of land with no buildings or grass. The first classes were held in wooden prefabricated classrooms. Over the years permanent buildings were added, with Primary established in 1986–87 and Secondary (two storeys) in 1992–93. The Arts and Sports building was partially inaugurated in 1998, and the theatre was formally inaugurated in 2011. Hiram Bingham has always pursued an international outlook and a British connection. The founder headmistress, Elsie Eckford, was British, and this tradition has been maintained with Derek Pringle, who has been the director for more than 25 years in total. The “House” system, common to many British schools, was introduced in 1988. Isabel Massa is a founder who has served as promoter and administrator for more than 40 years, playing a key role in the school's growth and in supervising major works over the decades. Her strong ethical sense has left a lasting impression on the school's spirit. The school began as a girls' school, but from 1998 boys were admitted. The 1980 cohort consisted of 49 students; today the student body is over 600. The core priority remains very personalized attention within a family-like environment, with a maximum of 50 students per year group. The wellbeing of students remains the top priority. In 2022, the school became the first in Peru to be evaluated by the IB across the continuum of all programmes.

The school fosters a climate of convivencia that supports the teaching and learning process. This is achieved through self-discipline rather than mere reliance on authority. The convivencia framework promotes student growth through accompaniment, focusing on reflection and attitude change rather than punitive discipline. All educators work on preventing disciplinary infractions, with particular attention to identifying individual, group, or family issues that could trigger misbehavior or misuses of freedom.
From early years, gradual language immersion is promoted, using dynamic methodologies that integrate academic content with real-life situations. This fosters not only language learning but also greater confidence and fluency in everyday use. In addition, students have access to international certifications that validate their English level and broaden their academic and professional opportunities. English proficiency at Villa Alarife is not only an academic objective but an essential tool for holistic development.
We strive to create a climate of convivencia conducive to the teaching‑learning process, recognizing wellbeing comes from self‑discipline and a supportive classroom. The convivencia framework promotes student growth through accompaniment, emphasizing reflection and attitude change rather than punishment.

1. Initiate the application by submitting the Online Enquiry Form. After submission, families receive an electronic copy of the Internal Regulations, and the Admissions Office will contact them to discuss the next steps in the process. The College seeks to offer places to families aligned with its educational philosophy, with limited spaces per class.
2. Be aware of admissions priorities and the BEAP requirement. Siblings of current students are given priority, followed by families with connections to the College, and then new families. All new families must be introduced by four BEAP members, one of whom can be a family member (employer letters may be accepted for recently arrived foreign families). These priorities follow legal provisions and influence admission decisions.
3. Who is evaluated. For Early Years (FS1, FS2, Kinder, P1), no age-appropriate assessments are conducted; placement is based on age. All other applicants are required to complete age-appropriate assessments, and the College may request an external evaluation if needed, especially to support language development for the English Immersion and Bilingual Programmes.
4. Notification of application results. All applicant families receive an email with the final decision, and places are offered only to those who have satisfactorily met all entry requirements. Discussions about the final admission decision are not part of the admissions process. Parents of applicants offered a place should visit the College to sign the offer letter and complete the Admissions process.
5. Enrollment and documentation for new students. Enrolment requires submission of the requested documents, and additional documents may be required depending on circumstances. For Local Transfers, documents include the Ficha Única de Matrícula (FUM), a clearance certificate from the previous institution, and a current SIAGIE enrolment certificate if the transfer is mid-year. For Local Transfers and International Transfers, separate documentation applies to ensure proper enrolment.
6. Admissions process for Primary (P2 to 6B) and Secondary. The process includes a guided tour of facilities, delivery of detailed information outlining the steps to start the application, and a complete review of the applicant's form. Next steps include personal interviews with parents in English and Spanish, written assessments in English, Spanish, and Mathematics, and the CAT4 exam; additional interviews may be scheduled at the College's discretion.
7. International transfers and validation of studies. For international families, it is recommended to begin the Process of Study Validation or Recognition with the Peruvian Ministry of Education, as enrolment may require such recognition (processing can take up to 30 working days). The College details the Validation of Studies (agreements) and Revalidation of Studies (no agreement) processes, and outlines the required documents (including translations and apostilles where applicable) to initiate these steps. In addition, international transfer requirements may include providing last two years of academic reports, FUM, and related documentation to complete enrolment.
