International School of the Stockholm Region is a municipal international school in Stockholm run by the City of Stockholm. It offers the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme, Middle Years Programme, Diploma Programme and Career-related Programme, with English as the working language. The school serves approximately 640 students and its PYP begins at age 5, while upper secondary pathways cover students up to age 19. ISSR is tuition-free for most eligible students because it is operated by the municipality. The school’s official site highlights a multilingual community, with 80 languages represented. A distinctive feature is its full IB pathway combined with municipal status, making it different from many fee-paying international schools. Beyond lessons, ISSR offers around 30 CAS clubs for Diploma students, as well as activities such as choir, band and chess. Its programmes prepare students for international and Swedish higher education pathways.
